well, I know I'M careful about what books I recommend, and to whom. for instance, I can't suggest that my bookclub read Child of My Heart, or Time Travelers Wife, because of some content they might object to. I don't think it's gratuitous or overdone in either book, but I know some of my friends don't want to read that sort of thing at all, no matter the reason.
of course, if I only recommended books w/o sex in them, how many books would I have left to recommend? I mean, besides YA fiction.

Janell, these were the best cookies so far. Don't get me wrong, I loved the short bread you made a few weeks ago, but these were something special. The texture was so fine and they cooked up perfect. They had that little crisp on just the edge and the centers were so springy. Some cookies try to overpower you with lemon flavor but this had just the right hint of lemon. To top it off, the light dusting of confectioners sugar was perfect. I will definately be wanting these again!!!

Janell, the bars were so good!!! I can't believe how rich they are. The camel pieces you used were an excellent choice. Seems like they are geting better and better. It was weird how you put the paper in the pan first though. Very interesting and very tasty.

I'm eating a Rocky Ledge Bar right now. I forgot my milk...lemonade isn't quite the thing. Took half of them over to my dad for Father's Day. He sat down intending to eat them all himself, but after one bite, he was offering them to everyone else. Very rich, but oh so yummy.
I have an on/off relationship with Alice Hoffman. One of her books was a rip-off of Wuthering Heights, very glaringly so, as well as being, I thought, rather poorly written. I thought Practical Magic was okay, but again, I've read better.
Just finished Call Me Maria, bu Judith Ortiz Cofer - very good, totally worth reading. She's an ALA notable or some such. now I gotta go find other stuff she wrote.

Ohhhh, what can I say. The Shortbread was amazing. I wasn't the least bit disappointed that it was Almonds not Hazelnuts. They were Crumbly and Sandy, just as promised! No matter what Janell says, I think hers were definitely better than mine. My one favorite touch added to this was the Raw Sugar sprinkled and cooked on top. They little crystals are crunchy and tasty. Over all a "Must Make Again" cookie!

I had trouble with that book, too. I really think it just wasn't as well-written as the other. And, is that really how he sees himself? Sad, if that's true.

In the end, though, not sorry I read it. It just lacked...something.

And the cost of the trip? I never could make sense of that, having traveled some myself. Maybe that lent enough disbelief to my reading that I couldn't enjoy the whole thing?

Pontoon was better.
